Two-piece construction, regimental badge in silver with red, white and black enamels, the badge illustrating a Maltese cross with ball finials on the points resting upon an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, with lions in the four quadrants, the centrepiece illustrating a dragon and inscribed "CHINA" above, the arms of the cross inscribed with battle honours, the 3 o'clock arm inscribed "PENINSULA, ORTHES, ALMA", the 6 o'clock arm inscribed "LUCKNOW, SEBASTOPOL, INKERMAN", the 9 o'clock arm inscribed "ALBUHERA, VITTORIA", the 12 o''clock arm inscribed "PYRENEES, NIVELLE, NIVE", with a ribbon banner inscribed "THE BORDER REGt" below, a red felt backer visible through the voided areas on the badge, mounted to a seven-pointed bronze gilt star base, the badge framed by an open-ended wreath and surmounted by the Victorian crown, measuring 107.3 mm (w) x 129.7 mm (h), all three lugs securing the badge in place intact, the two helmet plate lugs repaired, minor crazing in the black enamels on the dragon, near extremely fine.
