Instituted 31 December 1578. A presentation case for a Grand Cross set of the Order of the Holy Spirit, constructed of a wood frame with a faux red leather exterior, with a gold embossed monogram of Philippe, Duke of Orléans, topped by a royal crown, the interior with a padded white satin-type lid liner, with a maker’s mark of “A. Bacqueville, Bijoutier-Joaillier, 346 Rue St. Honoré, Paris”, with an adjustable depressed and slotted white doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional bronze spring catch with exterior stud release, with dual functional magnetic metal hinges, measuring 130 mm (w) x 320 mm (l) x 65 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
