It is dated to “in the east” on May 5, 1944 and signed in blue ink by the Commander of the 96th Infantry Division, Generalleutnant Richard Wirtz (1893-1963), a recipient of the German Cross in Silver. Measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), with one folding crease, and light scuffing and creasing, remaining very fine.
