Germany, Heer. A Gebirgsjäger Officer’s Service Tunic, to Dr. Alfred Horstkotte, by Armeemarinehaus, c.1943

(Heer Gebirgsjäger Waffenrock). A German Heer (Army) Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troop) service tunic, constructed of field-grey wool-rayon blend, presenting single-breasted with two pleated patch breast pockets and two diagonally angled slash hip pockets, all with scalloped button down flaps, displaying a total of twelve field-grey metal buttons, six arranged down the front of the tunic, meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes, with one to each pocket and one to each shoulder, maker marked C.TH.DICKE on reverse, above the right breast pocket is an officer’s breast eagle constructed of silvered bullion aluminum wire in various textures, interlaced with light-olive green threading, over a forest-green wool base, measuring 100 mm (w) x 45 mm (h), with an Iron Cross, II Class ribbon sewn through the second button hole, the collar is constructed of forest-green wool, flanked on each side by collar tabs constructed of dark-green wool bearing dual machine-embroidered silver aluminum bullion wire columns with bright-green down each column’s centre, each measuring 40 mm (w) x 74 mm (h), the interior of the collar bears two magnetic metal hooks meeting an equal number of metal loops on the opposite side, facilitating a flush fit with the wearer’s neck, each shoulder displays a shoulder board constructed of cardboard-reinforced light-green wool bearing two rows of twisted silver aluminum bullion wire, wrapped around a pebbled, silvered zink button securing the board to the tunic, each shoulder board also bears two gilded zink rank pips, indicating that this tunic was worn by a Hauptmann, each measuring 35 mm (w) x 100 mm (h), the right upper arm bears a edelweiss sleeve insignia constructed of grey, silver, yellow, and green machine embroidery over a forest-green wool backer, measuring 59 mm (w) x 70 mm (h), the reverse presents a vertical slit measuring 23.5 cm, met at the top by two silvered pebbled metal buttons, the interior of the tunic features a complete field-grey rayon liner, transitioning into a pinstripe design through the arm, there are interior pockets located at each breast, opening with a reinforced horizontal flap, the right bears the owner’s tag marked Armeemarinehaus, Berlin-Charlottenburg 2, Herr, with his name Dr. Alfr. Horstkotte written in black ink, the interior of the collar presents the maker’s label embroidered Armeemarinehaus inhaber: Deutscher Offizier-Verein Berlin (Army Navy House, Owner: German Officer Association, Berlin), the tunic measures 39 cm across the shoulders, 64 cm in the sleeve (each presenting a 15 cm cuff), and 72 cm in total length, the tunic presents moderate evidence of mothing throughout and mild soiling to the interior liner, and is in otherwise near extremely fine condition.
