Instituted 1920. A presentation case for a Grand Cross set of the Order of the Star, constructed of a wood frame with a lacquered red canvas exterior, the obverse lid with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Afghanistan, the interior with a padded salmon-red satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover and ribbons, with an Afghan maker’s mark, with a retractable depressed and slotted doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional bronze snap button and dual functional magnetic metal hinges, measuring 135 mm (w) x 302 mm (l) x 55 mm (h), some soiling and material fatigue evident, otherwise in better than very fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
