Germany, Heer. An Iron Cross II Class Document With Accompanying Letters

The documents are as follows: an Iron Cross 2nd Class award document (139x199mm, very fine); the accompanying letter to the award (211x148mm, fine); the accompanying letter to the award document (207x149mm, near very fine).

The Iron Cross 2nd Class award document is named to Obergefreiter (Corporal) Gustav Hundertmark on the 5th Company of Schützen Regiment 33 (at the time stationed at the central part of the Eastern Front). It is dated to February 22, 1942 and signed in blue ink by the commander of the 4th Panzer Division, Oberst (Colonel) Heinrich Eberbach (1895–1992), a recipient of the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves.

The accompanying letter to the award is dated to March 3, 1942 and addressed to Elfriede Hundertmark, Gustav Hundertmark’s wife, asking her to give him the decoration and the best wishes of his unit. It is signed in pencil by the company leader, and Oberleutnant (Senior Lieutenant), the name could be Schulz.

The accompanying letter to the award document is dated to June 26, 1942 and, again, addressed to Elfriede Hundertmark. However, this letter was sent from the Panzerjäger Replacement Company of Infantry Replacement Regiment 10. It states that the 4th (heavy) Company of Security Regiment 33 had sent them the award document for Hundertmark, but since his new Feldpost number is not known, they send the document to Elfriede and ask her to forward it to her husband. The letter is signed in pencil by the company leader, a Hauptmann (Captain), the name is illegible.
