Germany, Wehrmacht. A West Wall Medal

(Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen). Constructed of zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, the obverse with a central pillbox topped by a crossed shovel and sword, with a Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLAND” (“FOR WORK IN THE DEFENCE OF GERMANY”), unmarked, measuring 33.22 mm (w) x 45.44 mm (h), weighing 14.7 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original pocket of issue, constructed of brown paper stock, the exterior marked “DEUTSCHES SCHUTZWALL-EHRENZEICHEN” in Fraktur script, measuring 59 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
