Instituted 19 May 1900. A presentation case for an Order of Military Merit, IV Class Officer’s Cross, constructed of a wood frame with a faux red leather exterior, the obverse lid with a gold embossed monogram of Tsar Boris III above a Bulgarian Cyrillic inscription of “Орденъ за Военна Заслуга” (“Order of Military Merit”), in turn above a laurel and oak leaf wreath, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner, with a partially intact hinge cover and a depressed white doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional bronze snap button, with a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 134 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), the lid has separated from the body of the case and there is minor material fatigue evident, in fair condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
