(Luftwaffe Bergmütze). A late Second War period Luftwaffe EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of a dark grey wool twill. The cap features fold-down panels providing optional neck protection which, when not in use, are held together at the front by a magnetic metal button. The peak of the cap is adorned with insignia in the form of a Luftwaffe-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, constructed of silver-grey machine embroidery on a dark grey wool backer, measuring 78 mm (w) x 35 mm (h), and a tri-colour cockade, constructed of machine embroidery, measuring 20 mm in diameter. The front of the cap features a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor. The interior features a complete grey rayon liner. The top is stamped “1944, RFNr. 0/0454/0041” along with a size of “55”. The cap measures approximately 155 mm (w) x 215 mm (l) x 68 mm (h). One of the buttons formerly holding in place the side panels is missing, and there is soiling and material fatigue reflecting wear, but the cap is in an otherwise very fine condition.
