Germany, Imperial. An Imperial Army Generalmajor (Major General) Tunic

(Generalmajor Waffenrock). This is an extremely well-preserved First War Imperial German Army Generalmajor (Major General) tunic, constructed of field-grey wool. The tunic features a collar which is fully lined with red piping, flanked on each side by tabs constructed of smooth red wool with hand-embroidered gold bullion wire insignia. Each tab measures 35 mm (l) x 95 mm (l). The shoulders are adorned with boards constructed of cardboard-reinforced red wool, each bearing dual gold bullion wire bands set around a single band of silver aluminum wire piping interspersed with black threading. The boards each measure 60 mm (w) x 110 mm (l) and are attached to the tunic by machine stitching at the outer edge and by a magnetic metal button on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 150 mm and trimmed with red piping. The right breast flap has two vertically-arranged threaded loops accommodating a 1914 Iron Cross I Class, itself constructed of blackened magnetic bronze alloy core within a ribbed silver frame, measuring 43.04 mm (w) x 43.11 mm (h). Each breast flap features a pocket opening with horizontal flap.

The tunic is closed by six gilded magnetic metal buttons on each flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposite flap. The interior features a black rayon liner, presenting plain with the exception of integrated rayon loop set into each armpit. The liner transitions into white rayon through the left arm. The right collar has three magnetic metal hooks meeting an equal number of magnetic metal loops on the right, facilitating a flush with with the wearer’s neck. The tunic is unmarked and measures approximately 450 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 630 mm and an overall body length of 765 mm. There is evidence that some of the buttons have been replaced and reattached, and the right arm liner has been removed. It is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
