Austria, Empire. A Field Pilot's Badge, Type II, Karl I (1917)

Two-piece construction, bronze gilt eagle, affixed to a base in bronze gilt with red, white and green enamels, the base illustrating a wreath of oak leaves with the shield on Karl I at its bottom and surmounted by the Austrian and Hungarian crowns, measuring 60.5 mm (w) x 59 mm (h), vertical pinback, chipping evident in the green enamels on the wreath, crazing in the white enamels on the shield, the cross on the Hungarian crown broken off, overall gilt loss on the eagle, very fine.
