(Орден Святой Анны). Established as a Russian Imperial Order of chivalry Karl Friedrich in 1735. Type II (1815-). Civil Division. An exquisite miniature constructed of Gold, consisting of a four-armed cross applique in impressive red enamels, each quadrant displaying refined ornamented Gold patterns, with obverse centre exhibiting a remarkable hand-made figure of St. Anna on enamels of multiple colors, the reverse centre bearing the hand-painted initials "A.I.P.F." for the Latin "Anna Imperatoris Petri Filia" (Anna, Emperor Peter's daughter) also on enamel, measuring 11.72 mm (w) x 13.74 mm (h - inclusive ball suspension), weighting 1.8 grams, with the original ring suspension, light contact, near mint.

 

Footnote: The Order of Saint Anne was established as a Holstein ducal and then Russian imperial order of chivalry established by Karl Friedrich, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, on February 14, 1735, in honour of his wife Anna Petrovna, daughter of Peter the Great of Russia.
