Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS Field Map Case

(Waffen-SS Kartentasche). A very well-preserved Waffen-SS map case, constructed of dark brown leather. The case consists of a leather binding with an accordion-style canvas interior featuring two pouches. The cover bears an integrated strap, while the interior has a magnetic metal loop which, fitting through a magnetic metal eyelet on the cover, meets the strap and securely closes the case. The reverse of the exterior also bears dual integrated leather straps with functional magnetic metal spring clips for suspension from a uniform. The interior has four leather slots for the accommodation of pencils. The reverse of the covers bears a handwritten inscription of “SS NAEKP 180” and a number of “34759”, with other inscriptions that have been rendered illegible through fatigue. The case is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 230 mm (w) x 300 mm (h). Age-appropriate material fatigue is evident to the leather features, but the case is in an otherwise better than very fine condition.
