Saxe-Altenburg, Duchy. An 1864 Medal for Assistance in the Altenburg Castle Fire

(Erinnerungsmedaille für Hilfeleistungen beim Schloßbrand 1864). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse with a rightward-facing profile of Duke Ernst of Saxe-Altenburg, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of “IN DANKBARER ERINNERUNG AN DIE BEI DEN BRANDE UNSERES RESIDENZSCHLOSSES ZU ALTENBURG AM 24. AUGUST 1864 ERFOLGREICH GELEISTETEN FEUERWEHRDIENSTE” (“IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE SUCCESSFUL FIREFIGHTING EFFORTS ON THE 24TH OF AUGUST 1864 AT OUR RESIDENCE IN ALTENBURG”), the obverse maker marked “B”, measuring 33.20 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition.
