A First War period German brooch constructed from a gilded piece of an artillery shell driving band, featuring a black-enamelled Iron Cross with oak leaves and laurel leaves on either side, reverse presents a horizontal pinback, measures 40 mm (w) x 12 mm (h), with a round medallion suspended below, the obverse states “Andenken an” (“Souvenir of”) and the reverse “Feindesland” (“Enemy Territory”), measures 10 mm in diameter, and in overall very fine condition.
