In bronze, voided, elliptical-shaped with points at either end, bearing the cypher of Queen Victoria surmounted by the Royal crown, framed by a perimeter bar inscribed "VICTORIAN ORDER OF NURSES FOR CANADA", with flanking clovers at the base, measuring 35.2 mm (w) x 60.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, very light contact, near extremely fine.
Footnote: At the turn of the twentieth century, home and maternity care were provided for by many organizations, most notably the Victorian Order of Nurses. This unique Canadian organization was established in 1897 by Lady Aberdeen, who was the wife of the Governor General of Canada and President of the National Council of Women.
