Instituted in 1888. Hardshelled design on both the lid and base, black simulated-leather pebbled-texture paper exterior on all sides, the lid bearing the Order of St. John cross in silver-coloured ink, black satin lining and padded on the inside lid, raised platform with a black felt recessed medal bed for the badge and a slotted medal bed for the breast star, the breast star medal bed a black satin pull-tab ribbon, dual-latch closures on the right side, dual-hinged on the left side, measuring 113 mm in width x 235 mm in length x 44.5 mm in depth, scuffing and wear evident on the exterior, with some of the covering peeling off and exposing the underlying wooden frame, surface rust on the hinges, extremely clean on the interior, near very fine.
