Hesse, Grand Duchy. A General Honour Medal for Bravery

(Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen für Tapferkeit). Instituted 25 September 1843 by Grand Duke Ludwig II. (1894-1918). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig II, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of “FÜR TAPFERKEIT” (“FOR BRAVERY”), within a laurel and oak leaf wreath, unmarked, measuring 33.33 mm in diameter, weighing 17.7 grams, in better than very fine condition.
