(Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen in Bronze Dem Verdienste 1914 mit Schwerterspange). Instituted 1914 by Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst. (1914-1919 issue). Constructed of bronze zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with crossed sword clasp, the obverse with a leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of “DEM VERDIENST 1914” (“FOR MERIT 1914”), within a circular oak leaf wreath, unmarked, the medal measuring 36.20 mm in diameter, the clasp measuring 43.41 mm (w) x 18.16 mm (h), weighing 24.1 grams overall, in better than very fine condition.
