Saxe-Weimar and Eisenach, Grand Duchy. A Decoration of Merit for Women in Wartime, c.1918

(Ehrenzeichen für Frauenverdienst im Kriege). Instituted 15 August 1915 by Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst and Grand Duchess Feodora. (1918 issue). Constructed of silvered zink, on loop for suspension from its period original bow tie-style ribbon, the obverse with raised rightward-facing profiles of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna and Grand Duchess Feodora, circumscribed by names and titles, the reverse with central combined monograms, circumscribed by an inscription of “FRAUEN VERDIENST IM KRIEGE” (“WOMEN’S MERIT IN WARTIME”) and above a date of “1915” in Roman numerals, unmarked, measuring 36.98 mm (w) x 52.73 mm (h), weighing 29.7 grams (inclusive of ribbon), most of the silver finish has been lost, in overall very fine condition.
