Germany, Wehrmacht. A War Merit Cross, II Class with Swords, with Package of Issue by Ferdinand Hoffstätter

Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a central wreathed date of “1939”, with crossed swords through the centerpiece, unmarked, measuring 47.68 mm (w) x 47.95 mm (h), weighing 22.5 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the obverse exterior with an inscription of “KRIEGS-VERDIENSTKREUX 2. KLASSE MIT SCHWERTERN”, the reverse exterior with a maker’s mark of “FERDINAND HOFFSTÄTTER, BONN”, measuring 58 mm (w) x 108 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
