Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 36.67 mm (w) x 44.00 mm (h), weighing 12.1 grams, accompanied by its original award document, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to “PION. FRITZ MENGEL”, awarded on 12 February 1943 for a wound suffered on 3 January 1943, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), some loss of black finish evident to the badge, in overall near extremely fine condition.
