United Kingdom. A Jellalabad Medal 1841-1842, Type 2, 13th Regiment (Somerset Light Infantry)

(TIMOTHY O'BRIEN 13th REGt). Naming is engraved, the first "T" in "TIMOTHY" partly obscured. Edge nicks, bruised, contact marks, original ribbon, fine. Accompanied by a list confirming that 1079 Timothy O'Brien was awarded the Jellalabad Medal while serving with the 13th Regiment (Somerset Light Infantry).

Footnote: The first type medal, struck in Calcutta, was considered to be unsuitable and holders were invited to exchange their medals for the second, more attractive, issue which was produced in London, although very few recipients took up the offer. The latter type was also awarded to the next-of-kin of soldiers killed in action.
