Flying helmet exterior in tan leather that has faded to a dark brown finish, the original tan color of the leather on the body of the helmet visible under the ear flaps. The helmet is composed of six triangular-shaped panels forming the dome, with two facing horizontal panels below, each with a round hole cut out for the ears and designed with an ear flap, each of the ear holes with reinforced stitching in brown threading, each of the ear flaps with a snap closure on the underside, the snap closure caps with a dark brown leather cover, along with an additional snap closure receiver on the exterior of the flap. The left side panel is constructed with a chin strap that has a leather-covered snap closure cap, that is designed to connect to the snap closure receiver on the right side panel. The interior is lined in a greenish-brown wool, with a single tan-colored metal cap placed beside each ear hole and comes with an embroidered manufacturer's label inscribed "A.G. Spalding & Bros." stitched in place in the dome. The helmet exhibits crazing and cracking in the leathers on the exterior, with a small piece missing on the chin strap, along with scattered wear spots in the greenish-brown wool lining on the interior. The helmet is accompanied by a pair of goggles, constructed with wide oval-shaped glass lenses housed in lightweight metal frames, the underside of each lens lined in greenish-brown wool, the side, top and bottom of each lens with a thin khaki mesh covering, with swing bar arms placed on either side and held in place by a single screw, with a weakened elasticized strap fed through the loop on the end of both metal arms, the ends of each strap connected by a rectangular metal buckle. The stitching remains intact throughout. Fine.
