Prussia. A Hohenzollern Service Medal, c.1848

Issued 1848-1849 by Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Circular bronze medal, engraved Reichsadler in centre of engraved circle with “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (FROM THE ROCK TO THE SEA) and Leopold cross with embellishment on obverse, Friedrich Wilhelm IV engraved on reverse centre with 1848 at 12 o’clock and 1849 at 6 o’clock, “SEINEN BIS IN DEN TOD GETREUEN KRIEGERN” (HIS DEADLY WARRIORS) engraved on border, measuring 29.92 mm (w) x 35.63 mm (h), with black ribbon with narrow white stripes, very fine.
