Prussia, Kingdom. A Düppel Storm Cross, c.1864

(Düppeler-Sturmkreuz). Instituted 18 October 1864 by King WIlhem I of Prussia. 1864 Issue. A bronze straight-armed cross paty with a round laurel wreath between the arms, the obverse bears a left facing head portrait of King WIlhelm I and “WILHELM KOENIG VON PREUSSEN” (Wilhelm, the King of Prussia), the reverse bears a crowned Prussian eagle atop a canon bearing a Danish cross, the 12 o’clock arm on the reverse is inscribed with “DÜPPEL”, the 3 o’clock arm “APR.”, the 6 o’clock arm “1864” and the 9 o’clock arm ''18”, measuring 32.52 mm (w) x 38.64 mm (h), on a blue ribbon with two vertical white stripes at edges and black vertical stripe with two white stripes in centre, very fine.
