Prussia, Kingdom. A War Cross for Combatants with Swords

(Kriegs-Erinnerungskreuz für Kombattanten mit Schwertern der Vereinigung Preußischer Kriegsteilnehmer). Silvered metal cross paty with white and black enamel, the obverse is a circular central white enamel medallion imposed bearing the polychrome crowned Prussian eagle within a gilt-edged black enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters “PREESSENS TAPFEREN KRIEGERN” (PRUSSIA’S BRAVE WARRIORS) with stylised gilt laurel leaves at the base, upward-pointing crossed silvered swords sit between the cross arms, the arms with silver-edged black enamel borders, the reverse with silver oak leaves on the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock arms,the 9 o’clock arm inscribed with “WELT” and the 3 o’clock arm inscribed with “KRIEG” (WORLD WAR), the centre white enamel medallion bears the dates 1914 1918 with a gilt line between the two dates, within a gilt-edged black enamel ring inscribed with “PREUSSISCHES KRIEGS ERINNERUNGS KREUZ” (PRUSSIAN COMMEMORATIVE WAR CROSS), with scroll and eyelet for ribbon suspension, on a black and white striped ribbon, measuring 38.60 mm (w) x 44.65 mm (h), very fine.
