Waldeck-Pyrmont, Principality. A Field Campaign Military Medal, c.1862.

Instituted 6 June 1862 by Prince Georg Viktor. A circular bronze medal, the obverse bears a fraktur script cipher “G. V.” for Prince Georg Viktor surrounded by a laurel wreath tied at the bottom, the reverse bears an oak leaf wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom encompassing a sword splitting “1849” in half, on suspension ring with red, black and yellow ribbon, measuring 29.35 mm (w) x 34.77 mm (h), very fine.

Footnote: In the war against Denmark, the Principality of Waldeck-Pyrmont sent units to the German federal troops. The consisted of an infantry battalion that was assigned to the reserve division of the 2nd squad. The medal commemorates the battles that took place on 18 June 1849 at Duppel and was awarded to all officers, NCOs, doctors and minstrels of the Principality who belonged to the battalion.
