(Hausorden vom Goldenen Löwen). Instituted on 14 August 1770 by Count Friedrich II of Hesse-Cassel. Post 1945 Manufactured Collectors Copy. A silver eight-pointed multi-rayed star, the obverse with a dark blue enameled central medallion depicting a multi-coloured enameled crowned rampant lion, surrounded by a broad ring of red enamels inscribed “VIRTUTE ET FIDELITATE” (For Virtue and Loyalty), the reverse plain, with eyelets attached to the tips of four of the arms, with a vertical tapered pinback, and a functional hinge/catch assembly, measuring 95.95 mm (w) x 96.31 mm (h), weighing 55.8 grams, the medallion on the obverse slightly sunken into the award, but in overall very fine condition.
