An iron cross paty constructed of iron with a magnetic core, the obverse is blackened with three raised borders, the centre bears a cipher “W” for Wilhelm, the 12 o’clock arm bears a crown and the 6 o’clock arm bears the date “1914”, the iron cross is partially encompassed by an open-ended laurel wreath tied with a ribbon in the form of a bow at the bottom, the reverse bears the number “181.3.” and the maker mark “GES. GESCH.”, and a loop (for hanging the plaque), measuring 138 mm (w) x 135 mm (h), weighing 310 g, extremely fine.
