Vietnam Medal (2205899 H. SAWA); and South Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 Clasp - 1960 (2205899 H. SAWA). Naming is impressed on the VM and engraved on the SVCM. Court-mounted with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, original ribbons. Australia Active Service Medal 1945-1975 (2205899 H. SAWA). Naming is pantographed, original ribbon with pinback, the VIETNAM Clasp affixed to a second independent ribbon, accompanied by its Miniature, 1 Clasp - VIETNAM (in nickel-silver, measuring 20 mm in diameter, original ribbon), in their case of issue (marked "AUSTRALIAN ACTIVE SERVICE MEDAL 1945-1975" on the lid, recessed medal bed). Pitting and edge nicks on the VM, chipping and loss evident in the green enamels on the SVCM, contact marks and spotting on the AASM. Very fine.

 

Footnote: Henry Sawa was born on July 13, 1950 in Cowra, New South Wales. He served for eleven months as a Sapper (2205899) with the Royal Australian Engineers, first with the 1st Field Squadron for eleven months, from December 10, 1970 to November 2, 1971, then for a month with at Headquarters Australian Force Vietnam (Army Component), from November 3 to December 9, 1971, a total of 365 days.
