Item #EU17605
Constructed of bronze, the obverse features an engraved coat of arms of Upper Silesia (Haute Silesia), with the name of state above, plain reverse with raised lettering COMMISSION INTERALLIEE DE GOUVERNEMENT ET DE PLEBISCITE 1920 – 1922, measuring 30.18 mm diameter, suspended by an oak wreath ornamented suspension also in bronze, on original chest ribbon, presenting general toned bronze, extremely rare medal in very good condition.
Footnote: During the years after the end of WWI, the allied powers administered a plebiscite in Upper Silesia, border between Prussia and France. There, it was discussed political and territorial situation of Germany and Poland after the war. The medal is considered a French medal (predominantly awarded to French armed forces), however the medal was actually issued by the Inter Allied government of Upper Silesia.
