This privately purchased tunic is fabricated from very fine quality Army green wool, while the contrasting collar is constructed of hunter-green wool. The shoulders are both adorned with sew-on shoulder boards in the rank of Senior Lieutenant/Oberleutnant, constructed of four strands of fine silver aluminum embroidered Russian braid in a U-shape, with a single gilt metal (magnetic) rank pip, and the numeral “30” in gilt numbers fastened to each shoulder board. The underside of the shoulder boards is constructed of red wool, that slightly overhangs over the Russian braid, thus giving it a red Waffenfarbe to signify artillery, attaching to the uniform via a single silvered metal (magnetic) pebbled button. The collar is decorated with red piping, with a set of officer’s collar tabs attached towards the front edge, constructed of rolled and twisted silver aluminum bullion threads that are embroidered onto a red wool backer. The right breast is ordained with an officer’s eagle, constructed of rolled, twisted, and flat silver aluminum bullion wires embroidered into the shape of a standard German eagle with open wings clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Vertically oriented at the opening of the tunic are eight matching pebbled silvered metal (magnetic) buttons, each maker marked with the logo of F.W. Assmann on the reverse, sewn to the tunic via thick thread. Each button is met on the opposite side by a reinforced button hole. The left breast is ordained with a small medal ribbon bar, with a ribbon for an Iron Cross 1939 Second Class, a Wehrmacht Long Service Medal, and a Sudetenland Commemorative Medal, fastened to the tunic via horizontal pinback and two small loops attached to the uniform. Each sleeve is decorated with French cuffs in hunter green wool trimmed with red piping, and featuring two rank patches constructed of silver aluminum bullion embroidery on a red wool core, each featuring a single pebbled silver metal (magnetic) button. Suspended from the right shoulder of the tunic is an agiullette, fabricated from fine aluminum bullion wire, divided into four sections: the first and second sections having a cord braided into multiple rows of loops, a thin wire loop attached to the ends of the braided portions, the extending ends of the cords on each terminating with long silvered metal tips, the third section has a shorter looped cord with a braided sliding adjustment knot, the fourth section has a long looped cord, with all four cords joined at six positions within a fine aluminum wire patch and slotted in the centre for placement around a button on the shoulder. The interior of the tunic is lined in matching army green rayon and wool blended fabric, with a lined small horizontal slit pocket on its left side, reinforced arm pit pads, as well as white rayon lined sleeves with decorative black pin stripes. The interior of this tunic also features an interior belt, two small loops that are sewn to the shoulders for easy hanging on a coat hanger. It is also maker marked “Mohr & Speyer A-F” on a clothes tag in yellow embroidery. The reverse of the dagger features an open-slit, that is decorated with red piping and four pebbled silvered metal (magnetic) buttons. The officer’s visor cap is constructed of fine quality thick field gray wool. It features a traditional high peak crown with tightly seated and even bright red piping, indicative of Artillery troops, running along the crown of the cap, as well as the top and bottom edges of the cap band. The cap band itself is constructed of green wool (faded). The insignia on the cap consists of a Wehrmacht eagle and a wreath with a cockade. Both insignia sit snug on the cap. The visor is crafted of Vulkanfiber with a molded raised ridge running along the brim. It is lacquered in glossy black on the obverse, and is coloured in a light brown on the underside, remaining firmly attached to the cap. The chin cord consists of a main cord crafted of multiple thick strands of twisted bullion cords, as well as two sliders constructed of four strands of thin twisted bullion cord, and is attached to either side of the cap via a silvered pebbled metal (magnetic) button. The interior of the cap is lined in champagne-coloured satin that is firmly stitched in place using grey twill. The crown portion of the cap also features a clear celluloid diamond that is embossed “Original Schellenberg Stirndruckfrei DRGM Sonderklasse” in red, and is accompanied by a paper name tag reading “Hauptmann Goetz FPN. 40 068”. Along the edge of the cap is also a brown faux leather sweatband that is perforated towards the front. The tunic is exceptionally well preserved, with only light wear to the officer’s breast eagle. The cap is likewise well preserved, with light moth nips to the bullion wreath and cockade, along with scattered cracks and rips in the interior cap liner. Overall in better than extremely fine condition.
