Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Military Balloon Tracking Award, by W. Sauerwein, Mainz

A rectangular table medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears a procession of various flying crafts over Mainz and the River Rhine within a circular frame of leaves, below is inscribed with “KRIEGSMASSIGE BALLONVERFOLGUNG MAINZ JUNI 1914" with a sprig of oak leaves below, the reverse is plain, the bottom edge is maker marked “W. SAUERWEIN MAINZ” measuring 49.92 mm (w) x 85.11 mm (h), very fine.
