Russia, Imperial. An Order of the White Eagle, Émigré Display Example, c. 1920

(О́рден Бе́лого Орла́). Instituted 1 November 1705 by Augustus II. Re-instituted 1831 by Tsar Nicholas I. An early Museum Display Example constructed of bronze, depicting a large black enamelled double headed eagle with a superimposed red enamelled Maltese Cross with ball finials in the center, with rays between the quadrants and the knees of the cross, atop the cross is a left facing white enamelled crowned eagle, the reverse center presents a small Latin cross with the center presenting an “M”, the entire badge is suspended from a large red, white and blue enamelled crown with screwback reverse, measures 47.57mm (w) x 79.58mm (h – inclusive of crown suspension), weighs 67.4 grams, obverse Maltese cross slightly loose, crude enamelling, replacement screwback cap, overall fine condition.
