Prussia, Kingdom. A War Merit Medal 1870/71

(Kriegsdenkmünze) Instituted 20 May 1871. A circular medal constructed of iron, the obverse bears a central crowned cipher “W” (Wilhelm), below reads “Für Pflichttreue im Kriege” (For Duty in War), circumscribed with “Gott war mit uns Ihm sei die Ehre” (God was with us. To Him be the honor), the reverse bears an iron cross paty with rays in the quadrants between the arms, the centre is dated “1870 1871” within an oak leaf wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom, with loop for suspension with white, red and black striped ribbon, measuring 28.92 mm (w) x 33.5 mm (h), very fine.
