Hessen, Grand Duchy. A Hessen Lion Sleeve Badge, c.1830

An ovular badge constructed of gilded die-stamped bronze, the obverse bears a lion rampant crowned and holding a sword, on a pebbled background encompassed by a half oak and half laurel wreath, the reverse bears one of two attachment prongs, and the badge bears two holes (for sewing attachment) at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, measuring 41.65 mm (w) x 48.55 mm (h), fine.
