Instituted September 19, 1849 by Emperor Franz Joseph. Type IV. (Issue 1913-1918). A bronze gilt cross decoration with a pebbled field in each arm, the central medallion presenting a superimposed silver double-headed Austrian eagle, the reverse is plain with one central rivet, measures 33.93mm (w) x 38.29mm (h – inclusive of integral suspension ball), weighs 13.1 grams (ribbon included), worn on original triangular ribbon, scattered gilt wear, very fine condition.

 

Footnote: This cross was founded by Emperor Franz Joseph I to reward Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and enlisted men in the Austrian Army and Navy for long service. The III Class (for 25 years with silver eagle) was conferred upon Officers.
