(Kriegsmarine Bild mit Unterschrift). A wartime signed photograph of Korvettenkapitän Wolfgang Kaden, constructed of card stock, the obverse with a glossed image of Kaden in uniform and wearing the Knight’s Cross, overlaid by a handwritten signature in green ink, the reverse with an unspoiled postcard arrangement, measuring 84 mm (w) x 142 mm (h), accompanied by an envelope, constructed of field-grey paper, addressed to “WILHELM MAIDAK” of Braunschweig, sent by Kaden with a Feldpost number of “M 39987”, measuring 162 mm (w) x 115 mm (h), with age-appropriate material fatigue evident, in overall extremely fine condition.

 

Footnote: Wolfgang Kaden was born on 5 December 1899 in Leipzig, German Empire. As commander of the submarine hunters UJ 116 and UJ 1110, he was a recipient of the Iron Cross II Class (15 December 1939), the Iron Cross I Class, the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (18 December 1940), and the Minesweeper War Badge. He was killed instantly on 9 July 1942 off the coast of Hammerfest, Norway, when UJ 1110 struck a mine laid by Soviet submarine K-21. His promotion to Korvettenkapitän came posthumously.
