Germany, Third Reich. A West Wall Medal

An ovular medal constructed bronze, the obverse centre bears a national eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons, underneath are a crossed sword and shovel, and below that a bunker on a hill, encompassed by a wreath of oak leaves, the reverse is inscribed with “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCH LANDS” (FOR WORK FOR THE PROTECTION OF GERMAN LANDS), encompassed by am oak leaf wreath, with loop for suspension on a yellow and white striped ribbon, measuring 32.80 mm (w) x 45.31 mm (h), very fine.
