(Kaitseliidu Valgerist). Instituted in 1929. A bronze gilt white enamel Maltese cross, the obverse center medallion presenting a silver right facing eagle with wings spread, holding a sword and Estonian shield, the reverse medallion presents the inscription 11 XI 1918, measures 38.80mm (w) x 45.60mm (h), weighs 15.8 grams (including ribbon), worn on an original ribbon, enamels intact, extremely fine condition.

 

Footnote: The White Cross of the Estonian Defence League was officially recognized by the Estonian government on June 19, 1929. It was discontinued during the Soviet occupation, but it was later renewed following the restoration of Estonian independence. It is awarded to members of the Estonian Defence League for long and meritorious service. It may also be awarded to foreigners for service to the Estonian Defence League.
