This is an extremely well-preserved 1864 edition of “The Dead Shot or: Sportsman’s Complete Guide: A Treatise on the Use of the Gun”. Written by a pseudonymous author credited as “Marksman”, the book is constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux green leather exterior liner and with gilt embossments. The interior content consists of 282 paginated white paper pages detailing principles and tactics for the hunting of various game with rifles, supplemented by strategies for the rearing and training of hunting dogs. The book was published in 1864 by W.A. Townsend of New York, as an American edition of a successful British publication. It measures 125 mm (w) x 182 mm (h). Only minor, age-appropriate material fatigue is evident, and the book is in an overall extremely fine condition.
