Germany, Luftwaffe. A Ground Assault Badge

(Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Constructed of partially silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a cloud from which a lightning bolt emanates and strikes the ground, overlaid by a silvered Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 43.40 mm (w) x 56.18 mm (h), weighing 33.6 grams, with oxidation and some loss of finish evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
