Turkey, Ottoman Empire. A War Medal (Gallipoli Star), with Corresponding Stick Pin, c. 1915

(Harp Madalyasi). Instituted 1 March 1915 by Sultan Mehmed V. A star constructed of nickel-plated brass, each tip is capped with a ball finial, the face of the star is red enamel with a silver cresent moon superimposed in the centre with the tughra (cipher) of Sultan Mehmed V over the date 1333 AH above, the reverse is plain and bears a horizontal pin, measuring 57.25 mm, weighing 25.8 g; with corresponding stick pin, measuring 9.52 mm (w) x 46.60 mm (h), both very fine.
