Germany, Imperial. An Exceptionally Detailed Promotion Certificate to Oberst Becker, 1881

The certificate is named to Oberstleutnant (lieutenant colonel) Eduard Becker, Commander of the 1st Pommeranian Ulan Regiment No. 4, promoting him to Oberst (colonel) of the Cavalry. It is dated to Itzehoe (northern Germany) on September 16, 1881 and signed in black ink by Emperor Wilhelm I. Measuring 223 mm (w) x 365 mm (h), presenting two folding creases and minimal creasing of the edges, remains extremely fine.

Footnote: Carl Eduard von Becker was born on August 2, 1833 in Ortenberg (Hesse). He joined the Hessian Cavalry in 1849 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1851. In 1859, he was promoted to First Lieutenant, and since 1860 he served as Adjutant of the Grand Ducal Hessian Cavalry Brigade. Becker served in both the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. He was promoted to Major in 1870 and was appointed Commander of the 4th Ulan Regiment in 1876. That same year, Becker was promoted to Oberstleutnant (lieutenant colonel). After his promotion to Oberst (colonel) in 1881, he was appointed Commander of the 10th Cavalry Brigade. In 1886, Emperor Wilhelm I ennobled him. That same year, Becker was promoted to Generalmajor (major general). He retired from active service in 1888.
