In bronze gilt, consisting of a stylized Croatian trefoil with white enamels, a cross formed in traditional Croatian wattle pattern, also known as the pleter or troplet, obverse centre presenting the Crown of Zvonimir with crossed swords, reverse shows the years 1076 (King Zvonimir’s crowning) and 1941 (the establishment of the NDH), measures 59.35 mm (w) x 60.63 mm (h), weighs 55.6 grams, on clip attached to period original sash, and in extremely fine condition. Accompanied by the star of the order, a multi-rayed, eight-armed star in die-stamped frosted silver, the obverse centre presents gilded bronze and enamels consisting of a stylized Croatian trefoil with white enamels, a cross formed in traditional Croatian wattle pattern, the obverse centre presents the Crown of Zvonimir with crossed swords, the reverse with pin assembly, unmarked, measures 94.65 mm (w) x 95.47 mm (h), weighs 60.7 grams, and in fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
