Germany, Luftwaffe. A Reduced Size Dagger, II Pattern, M1937 by S.M.F. Solingen

The dagger features a double-ridged magnetic blade with unsharpened edges and a untouched tip. The reverse bears the mark “SMF SOLINGEN D.R.G.M.” including its iconic seated figure with sword. The blade has remained untouched and has spotting overall. The blade fits nicely into the crossguard which retains its original thin blue leather washer. The cross guard is in aluminum and consists of a Luftwaffe style eagle clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The crossguard transitions into the celluloid grip with a band of oak leafs. The grip is a pumpkin coloured ribbed celluloid with ten rows of twisted wire in the recess. The dagger completes with a pommel decorated with oak leaves and a mobile swastika on the obverse and reverse. The scabbard is constructed of a magnetic metal, with a traditional pebbled finish and flattened finial. With oak leaf detailing at the tip and two banded with loops for hanger attachment. In very fine condition. The dagger also features a loosely applied portepee in fair condition. Additionaly, the dagger is accompanied by a hanger set in the typical Luftwaffe style. Both clips retain their springloaded action, however the primary belt clip is missing part of its attachment hook. Overall, this dagger represents a vet bring back that has not been cleaned, adjusted, or altered by a collector.
