Germany, Wehrmacht. An Eastern People’s Medal, I Class in Gold with Case, by Wächtler & Lange

(Verdienstauszeichnung für Ostvölker I. Klasse Gold). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star, with a central raised rosette within a circular laurel leaf wreath, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, the reverse of the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “100” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 49.55 mm (w) x 49.34 mm (h), weighing 19.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior, the lid bearing a gilt image of the decoration, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted black felt medal bed, opening with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 70 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), most of the badge’s gilt finish has been lost, in overall better than very fine condition.
