Constructed of gilt bronze, with red enameled arms; the obverse with a blue enameled central medallion depicting a gilded baby phoenix sitting in a pit of fire, surrounded by a red enameled ring inscribed “Post Fata Resurgio” (Latin - Rise again after death); the reverse with a central blue enameled medallion depicting a coat of arms, surrounded by a white enameled ring, inscribed “Altoria”; suspended from a multi-piece suspension consisting of crossed scepters, and a baby phoenix sitting in a pit of fire, as well as a broad loop for ribbon suspension; accompanied by a correct replacement ribbon; measuring 52.50 mm (w) x 49.68 mm (h); weighing 28.0 grams; with light oxidation on the cross from age; in overall near very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
