Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duchy. A Silver Medal for Art and Science with Laurel Branches, c.1914

(Silberne Verdienstmedaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft mit Lorbeerkranz). Instituted March 1905 by Duke Carl Eduard. (1911-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, with an integrated suspension loop and period original ribbon, consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, the obverse with a raised rightward-facing profile of Duke Carl Eduard, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with a central inscription of “FUER KUNST UND WISSENSCHAFT” (“FOR ART AND SCIENCE”), unmarked, measuring 32.25 mm (w) x 32.85 mm (h), weighing 13.5 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
